Legal Steel
Your canary in the coal mine of firearm classifications in Canada.
Subscribe to our Pro plan and add firearms to your personal watch-list. We'll notify you immediately of any changes or discrepancies we find.
Use our convenient search function to see the current and historical status of firearms.
Are you certain of the legal status of your firearms?
In Canada, our firearms classification system is often unpredictable. Firearms that were once non-restricted can be reclassified as prohibited overnight without direct notice to owners.
Using a prohibited firearm, even unknowingly, can carry severe criminal charges.
We monitor the RCMP Firearms Reference Table (FRT) — the administrative document provided publicly by the RCMP. While not a legal instrument itself, it reflects expert assessments based on the Criminal Code and applicable Regulations. We make it easier to search, and track changes as they occur.
Access direct links to relevant resources for firearm regulations, safety protocols, and official documentation.
We Track Classifications, Not People
Legal Steel monitors firearm classifications, not firearms owners. We don't ask what you own — your watchlist is a monitoring preference, not a record of possession. If you have an account, we store your email address and the FRNs on your watchlist. For billing, Stripe holds your payment details; we store only a Stripe customer identifier to manage your subscription.
Note: Legal Steel is not an official RCMP resource and does not provide legal advice. Always check official documentation.
